Value Added Tax (VAT) will take effect in The Bahamas January 1, 2015.
VAT is an indirect tax which is considered broadly based consumption tax charged on the value added to goods and services. It applies to almost all goods and services that are imported, bought and sold for use or consumption. Conversely goods exported supplied to customers abroad are exempted or zero-rated.

When flying in and out of Odyssey Aviation (located at the airports: MYNN, MYEF, MYEM, and MYER) please expect to be charged VAT based on the following circumstances:
INTERNATIONAL FLIGHTS: GOODS AND SERVICES TO ALL AIRCRAFT ARRIVING OR DEPARTING INTERNATIONALLY WILL BE ZERO RATED (0%)
DOMESTIC FLIGHTS: GOODS AND SERVICES TO ALL AIRCRAFT ARRIVING OR DEPARTING DOMESTICALLY WILL BE STANDARD RATED (7.5%)
EXEMPT: GOVERNMENT FEES ARE VAT EXEMPT FOR ALL FLIGHTS (INTERNATIONAL AND DOMESTIC)
Examples of Government fees that apply to the above:
- Landing permits
- Work permits
- Dog permits
- Departure Tax
- Inbound/Outbound Customs processing fees
- Immigration Attendance fee
